CAREER: Principal Dancer at the Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires, Argentina, that Ms. Astrova joined upon graduating in 1974, Maria Elena bypassed the corps de ballet and performed virtually the entirety of the classical repertoire, often siding Artists of the likes of Maya Plissetskaya and in front of audiences of 10, 000 spectators at time, to include Coppelia, Les SylphidesBolero, Swan Lake, Carmen, Romeo & Juliet, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Raymonda, Graduation Ball, among others.
As Guest Principal Artist, Maria Elena performed throughout Europe and South America with such companies as Cosi Stefanescu Classical Ballet, Belfiore Ballet, and in National Festivals. Appointed Artistic Director of the Classical Ballet Company of Argentina, in 2000 Maria Elena served as Artistic Director of Jorge Donn' s Tribute held at the Theater Coliseum in Buenos Aires at the presence of Maurice Bejart.
While her primary activity is today teaching and serving as an Artistic Advisor on both the Ajkun Ballet Theatre's Board and  the Argentinean Senators' Board for National Cultural Laws, Maria Elena continues to enjoy performing character roles with the National Ballet Company.

EDUCATION: It was her Mother, ballet dancer Mura Astrova, along with Ballet Masters Henry Vasil Tupin and Enrique Lommi to provide Maria Elena with her early ballet training. A graduate of the Teatro Colon in her native Buenos Aires, Maria Elena studied with Tamara Grigorieva and Antonio Truyol.

AWARDS: Gold and silver medallist at the Gualeguaychu Festival in 2006.
